7th Grade Ecology Trips

The IMS 7th Grade Sustainability & Community Engagement Trips are a series of immersive, place-based learning experiences designed to deepen students'understanding of local ecosystems, sustainable practices, and the importance of collaboration within a community. These trips provide students with hands-on opportunities to explore core environmental concepts while fostering teamwork, leadership, and social-emotional growth.

Over the course of several off-campus learning days (Appleton Farms, Ipswich River/Watershed, Cape Ann Whale Watch, and Project Adventure), students will:

  • Investigate local ecosystems through river water testing and data collection, connecting scientific inquiry to real-world environmental concerns.
  • Explore sustainable agriculture by visiting local farms, where students will engage in discussions about food systems, land use, and human impact on the environment.
  • Participate in team-building challenges at Project Adventure, a nationally recognized experiential education program. Students will develop essential communication, problem-solving, and trust-building skills as they navigate ropes courses and group initiatives.

These experiences will allow students to reflect on their roles as community members and environmental stewards, connecting their learning to broader concepts of civic responsibility and ecological sustainability.
